How To Use the Client Closet for Your Newborn Photography Session

Having a client closet available is one of the most helpful things for a mama at their newborn session.

I have a collection of hand selected garments that were curated specifically for the purpose of being photographed in my signature light and minimal style. They also are selected because they are comfortable, flattering, and most are even nursing friendly – perfect for the postpartum mama.

When you’ve just been pregnant and had a baby, it can be hard to leave the house to go shopping. And even if you purchase something online, chances are that you will have to buy it in a size that you won’t be able to wear for long. That’s what makes having the dresses at the studio so convenient for you!

How to Use the Client Closet for your Newborn Photography Session

During the Consultation

When you come in for your consultation, we will discuss and plan many facets of your session but one of those is wardrobe. What you wear is one of the things that make the biggest impact on how your photos turn out!

For example, if you wear dark clothing, the whole image changes. Assuming you’re working with me because you love the style of newborn photography you’ve seen on my website, it’s important that you wear something which contributes to making that happen.

During the consultation, I will show you an online gallery of images, and you’re welcome to browse the dresses in person as well. I have a variety of sizes, colors, and styles.

You are welcome to see the client closet online gallery here.

You will be able to sit on it and make the final decision during your session.

During Your Newborn Session

The only thing you need to bring to wear to your session is appropriate undergarments (usually I recommend a nude colored bra and underwear. If you prefer a strapless or sticky bra that’s fine too! Just try to keep it as light as possible).

Once you arrive to the studio for your session, we will start getting everything set up. If your sweet baby is hungry, we will go ahead and take care of that first thing. Then you are welcome to look through the dresses and try them on, and ultimately decide!

I have been involved in a style education course in another business I’m a part of for the last 7 years or so. I’ve studied many things, including color analysis and personality styles. Combining that with my photography background is a bit of fun and I am more than happy to offer suggestions and comments on what I think looks best on you, and what would coordinate with your home’s design (since you’ll hopefully be framing these)! ☺

After Your Newborn Session is Over

Once your session is over, you will just leave the dress with me! I will take care of laundering the garment and preparing it to be used in the future again. Don’t worry a bit if your baby made a mess somewhere, or if we had some leakage anywhere. After 4 children, I know lots of things are happening all over which can make garments dirty. I will take care of it happily!

This makes the process so convenient and hassle free, which is exactly what I want for you, and why I have this client closet in the first place! You deserve to look and feel beautiful during your photos, and I hope you enjoy not having to worry about dry cleaner runs or doing any more laundry than absolutely necessary during your postpartum season.

Other Questions and FAQ

Q: Can I use your client closet for other sessions also?
A: Yes, client closet is available for all full sessions! This includes indoor and outdoor maternity and family. The process is a little bit different regarding pick up and dropping off of the garments

Q: Do you have anything for children?
A: Officially, no. I used to have some, but it was never used so I dissolved it. However, if your session is at the studio, there are some garments available for children. I don’t have them catalogued or know exactly what is available as I share them with my studio partners. But we can look through them at your consultation and see if there’s something available that you like!
I do have wraps for using for the newborn baby, but if you prefer an outfit please bring one!

Q: Do you have anything for dads?
A: Also no. But I am open to getting a few options if it becomes a popular request! Outfits for men are generally simple and straightforward, such as a light colored or white shirt and neutral light colored dress pants which most men already own!

Q: Can I wear my own items for my session?
A: Absolutely! If you have something already that’s totally fine!

Q: Will I be able to try garments on?
A: Yes, you may do this after you book your session, either at the consultation or you may try them on at your session as well. If you’re still pregnant during your consultation you will probably opt to try them on after your baby is born!

Q: Are items true to size?
A: Most items in my client closet fit multiple sizes. If it’s labeled small, medium, or large, those will most likely fit anyone who is small, medium, or large. (for example, I’m usually a size medium but I can fit the smalls, mediums, and larges. And some XS items) The garments that are XS tend to fit a bit smaller but I still try to get them in stretchy and forgiving materials. The XL-2X items will fit a little bigger. However, we can also use a clip to define your waist if your favorite dress is a big too big! If there’s a specific item you have questions about I can tell you more about how it fits and show you examples.
